In 1991 a ministry for the arts was established in the parish as Horizons Arts Ministry. It has a broad mission to foster events that celebrate various arts and gather people to learn, share, and be inspired through human experience and expression. Hundreds of presentations such as exhibits, ethnic festivals, concerts, lectures, and children’s events have gathered visitors far beyond the walls of this parish. St. Michael’s was the first church in the area to have a relationship with the University of Kansas Osher Lectures, and the annual Youth Summer Arts Camp (grades 1-6) has children from 20+ elementary schools in the metropolitan area with scholarships to support children of limited means. The Horizons Arts Council generally meets on a Saturday once a month to plan and oversee events. If you are interested in information or participation in this ministry, please contact Dr. Ken Walker, ken@stmaa.com.
